One way to wake yourself from that sleepy slumber this Christmas Day is with a nice dip in Dundag while helping a charity.
Local lady Niki McCarthy is organising the 11th Christmas Day Dip for charity Aware in memory of her 26-year-old sister Sylvan who took her own life in Wales in 2004.
To date the dip has raised €54,000, Niki explained to the Killarney Advertiser.
“I wanted to do something in her memory and help a mental health charity. I chose Aware as it was the first one I had heard of. It started with 20 people and now we have up to 150 who take part each year.”
Participants are asked to gather from 10.30am onwards and head into the water at 11am.
Those taking part can contact Niki beforehand for a sponsorship pack and each person will receive a t-shirt from Aware on the day. Donations are also accepted on the day.
“It’s really nice to get out and socialise on Christmas morning. It’s filled with community spirit and also good to help a charity. There will also be refreshments and snacks for everyone there on the day.”
