Popular Killarney man John ‘Sully’ O’Sullivan could be facing another year in hospital as complications surrounding his illness took another turn for the worse.

Sully (53) was rushed from University Hospital Kerry (UHK) to the Mater Hospital, Dublin after becoming seriously ill with sepsis last October. He was then transferred to Dun Laoghaire and months later back to UHK, where he is currently staying. He is expected to remain in hospital for at least another year.

In the latest in a series of events to help his family off-set medical and other expenses, a table quiz is being organised by his family and friends.

It was initially hoped that he would be able to return home in the next few months but additional complications mean his road to recovery is further down to the line.

The Killarney man was hoping that once changes are made to convert parts of the family home he could leave hospital and focus on his future recovery. However, these changes have now been made but the much-loved local mechanic from Woodlawn will not be able to use them just yet.

The fundraising table quiz, which is being organised by family friend Paul Cronin, is scheduled for next Friday (November 8) at 8.30pm in the Gleneagle Hotel.

“His recovery is very slow, the hospital can’t seem to control the infection and he is looking at anything up to another year in hospital,” Paul told the Killarney Advertiser. “He was hoping to be home and all this work is done on the house. He was self-employed and funds are no-longer what they need to be.”

Spring welcomed with trad music at Muckross House

A special musical celebration titled ‘St. Brigid and the Arrival of Spring’ took place recently in the great hall of Muckross House.

The event, presented by the Muckross House Research Library on behalf of the Trustees, featured performances by world-famous tin whistle player Mary Bergin, master harper Kathleen Loughnane, and fiddle and bouzouki player Mick Conneely.
The evening included a repertoire of jigs, reels, and slow airs. During the performance, Kathleen Loughnane shared historical insights into the Belfast Harp Festival of 1792, where Edward Bunting recorded ancient tunes to preserve them. She also highlighted the story of a North Kerry man named Lyons who served as the harper to Lord Antrim.
Former Mayor of Killarney, Michael Gleeson, was among the attendees and praised the event for its informative and enjoyable atmosphere. He noted that the music helped dispel the gloom of recent weather and extended his thanks to Patricia and the organizing team.
The performers brought distinguished backgrounds to the Killarney stage. Mary Bergin, originally from Dublin and now living in Connemara, received an Honorary Doctorate from UCD in 2022. Kathleen Loughnane, a native of
