Liebherr Container Cranes have announced details of the Apprenticeship Programme for 2020, available in three different fields, Electrical, Mechanical Automation and Maintenance Fitter, and Metal Fabrication.

Upon completion, graduates will receive a dual qualification, a Level 6 Craft Certificate in their trade and a Level 6 Higher Certificate in Engineering in their respective fields from IT Tralee. Liebherr apprenticeships are an excellent opportunity for candidates to get an internationally recognised qualification along with an academic qualification, which provides a basis for further studies.

Liebherr Container Cranes has long been recognised as a pioneer in the provision of apprenticeships. The very first apprentices in Liebherr Container Cranes enrolled in 1959 and since then Liebherr has trained over 1000 apprentices in Killarney.

The apprentice-training model combines a practical and theoretical education, delivered with the cooperation of SOLAS, the state body with responsibility for training and further education. The apprentice scheme has proved very successful over the years, with graduates occupying a wide variety of roles within the company, up to and including Managing Director.

To apply for these roles, applicants should send an up-to-date CV, a copy of Leaving and Junior Cert results and a cover letter specifying the role that you are interested in and why to apprenticerecruit.lcc@liebherr.com. Any further documents such as training certificates, references, project details and awards etc., should also be included.

The closing date for receipt of completed applications is Friday, September 6. Applicants must be at least 16 years of age on January 1, 2020.

Successful candidates will benefit from a competitive package, fully paid training and education, excellent future employment and progression prospects, along with the opportunity to travel the world.

The NAPA Auto Parts Irish Tarmac Rally Championship heads to Dungannon this Easter weekend for the Circuit of Ireland, with two Killarney men at the sharp end of the entry list.

Muckross co-driver Noel O’Sullivan and driver Callum Devine start as top seeds in their Skoda Fabia RS Rally2.

The reigning champions are looking to defend their 2025 Circuit victory and regain ground in the championship standings following Josh Moffett’s recent win in West Cork.

Joining them in the top-flight Rally2 class is Rockfield’s Shane Buckley.

Navigating for David Kelly in a similar Skoda, Buckley will be aiming to break onto the podium after the crew secured two fourth-place finishes in the opening rounds of the series.

The Killarney pair face a competitive field including dual West cork Rally winner Moffett (Toyota Yaris Rally2) and Irish National Rally Champion Eddie Doherty.

Kerry representation across the field

Beyond the lead battle, several other Kerry navigators are in action over the two-day event. Currow’s John McCarthy returns to pace-note duties for John Devlin in their Ford Escort Mk2, competing in the competitive modified section.

Lissivgeen school teacher Elaine Ní Shé also makes the trip north. She will be competing in the four-wheel-drive Rally3 class alongside driver Richard O’Lone in a Ford Fiesta.

In the Wales Motorsport Historic ITRC category, Castleisland’s Denny Greaney continues his championship bid.

Partnering with Ronan Campbell, Greaney will be looking to challenge current points leaders Jason McSweeney and Liam Brennan, who are chasing a hat-trick of wins in their Escort Cosworth.

The rally gets underway this Good Friday, covering a demanding route of asphalt stages across Tyrone.
