A one day competition, to remember Killarney teenager Niall McGillicuddy, will take place tomorrow (Saturday).
The ‘Niall McGillicuddy Memorial Cup’, which was launched by Kerry Football Manager Peter Keane in the International Hotel recently, will honour the youngster who died of Leukaemia last October, aged just 16.
The U16 competition will commence at 10am with Killarney Legion welcoming teams from Fossa, Firies, Laune Rangers, Glenflesk, Austin Stacks, Dr Crokes, Spa, Kilcummin, Rathmore and Kenmare.
“Niall had friends in many clubs through his involvement in school teams, divisional sides and development squads and it was these friendships and indeed great rivalries which dictated the teams to be invited this year,” Elaine O’Donoghue, Killarney Legion PRO, told the Killarney Advertiser.
“The whole club is involved in the organisation of the event and we are confident that the tournament will be a fitting tribute to a very special and much missed son, brother and friend. We would encourage everyone to come along and celebrate Niall’s love of football.”
