The new extension at Gneeveguilla National School, which boasts two resource rooms and a state-of-the-art sensory room, was officially opened on Friday last (June 21).
Pupils, staff, parents, grandparents and members of the community celebrated with Chairperson of the Board of Management, Eileen Cronin, by raising the flags and cutting the ribbon on the new extension, which was blessed by Fr Anthony O’Sullivan.
“It was a very proud day for the school as they achieved their third Green Flag, first Active School Flag and fifth Discover Primary Science and Maths Award,” Principal Gerardine Shanahan said. “Gneeveguilla National School is going from strength to strength with increased enrolments and a wide range of facilities and activities provided by the school. Any schools interested in adding a sensory room to their schools are invited to visit Gneeveguilla NS and speak with myself.”
The sensory room is provided by Health Care 21, a Cork-based specialist company, that employs uncle and nephew, Joe and Liam McCarthy, who are two past pupils of the school.
