Soccer aficionado Adrian Jasinski was the toast of the town this past week as he scooped a €250 voucher for Brian James for topping the 2018/19 Killarney Advertiser Fantasy Football League.

After a gruelling nine-month campaign, Adrian finished first out of 479 competitors to eventually secure first place and claim the coveted top prize.

Jasinski had an incredible season and averaged an impressive 66.1 points over the final 10 weeks.

And Adrian’s tally of 2,480 points wasn’t just remarkable by local standards. Of the 6.3 million players who took part in Fantasy Premier League globally this season, the Killarney man finished 548th overall. He also finished 23rd overall in Ireland.

Adrian came first in Serie A-dvertiser with 40 points to spare over second place Andy Twomey while Ryan Scott was a further 27 points back in third.

On behalf of the Killarney Advertiser, Adam Moynihan congratulated Adrian on his fantastic victory.

“I say this every year but I think people who don’t play, don’t realise it: it takes a lot of work and know-how to succeed at fantasy football. Fair play to Adrian for putting in the time and effort. He must know the Premier League like the back of his hand.”

Adam also said that the Killarney Advertiser were extremely grateful to tournament sponsors Brian James who presented vouchers worth €50 to each Manager of the Month throughout the season and, of course, the grand prize of a €250 voucher to the overall winner.

Shane Lynch and Conor Healy were named joint Hardest Working Managers for the third year in a row. There is no prize for this award.

Dr Crokes team of 2000: The reunion

Published

Recently, the Dr Crokes team of 2000, who won the Kerry senior football championship of that same year, re-united and looked back on fond memories of their glory days and that very special year when they beat An Ghaeltact in the final at Austin Stack Park.

On November 26, 2000, Dr Crokes faced An Ghaeltacht and defeated the Dingle-based side.

It was no easy task making the final for the Killarney side, despite having talent such as captain Roland Neher, Eoin Brosnan, and a 17-year-old Colm Cooper at the start of his illustrious career.

Before the final, Crokes defeated Killarney Legion (preliminary round), South Kerry (round-one), Rathmore (quarter-final), and narrowly defeated West Kerry by a point in the semi-final (1-08 – 1-07).

It was the first time An Ghaeltacht had qualified for the final, but this was no happy welcome for the Dingle side, as the Killarney-based side won their ninth title.

Like in the semi-final, Dr Crokes won by a point as they scarcely won by 1-04 – 0-06.

Despite Dara Ó Cinnéide ending the tournament as top-scorer with 3-20, he was unable to carry his Dingle side to victory with the Killarney side being superior.

Neher led his team out onto the pitch, and he inspiringly helped push his team to victory.

This ensured Harry O’Neill’s versatile and developed squad deserved every bit of praise for them.
