Carrauntoohil walker brought to safety after thick fog descends

15 members of the Killarney Mountain Rescue team came to the aid of a male walker in his 30’s on Wednesday.
The walker became stuck on a ledge near O’Shea’s Gully, Carrauntoohil when he walked off his intended route in thick fog.
Killarney Gardai were alerted and contacted the team at 12.30om and the casualty was located at approximately 2.20pm.
Team members abseiled down steep ground to the casualty’s position, securing him in-situ before lowering him to a safe platform below the crag and subsequently back to the main descent track down to the Hag’s Glen, Colm Burke, PRO Kerry Mountain Rescue Team, explained.
“A total of 15 team members were involved in the rescue operation which concluded at 5pm. “Conditions on the mountain were initially very windy and cold with thick fog prevailing. The fog cleared later during the rescue operation.”
