Gardai to monitor ongoing Ballyspillane feud

A bitter feud between Traveller families erupted in a Killarney estate in the early hours of Thursday morning - after an accelerant – described as similar toa petrol bombwas thrown at the front door of a house – endangering the lives of adults and children asleep inside.
Close to 1am, Gardai and the Emergency Services rushed to the scene in Ballyspillane Estate where they found the front door of the home on fire as well as damage to a vehicle nearby.
It’s believed theoccupants of the house, who were sleeping at the time of the attack, managed to get out the back door safely.
Gardai maintained a strong presence in the estate again yesterday (Thursday) but tensions began to escalate at around 11am as two groups came to blows.
The latest violence is believed to be ongoing for a year in the area and Gardai this week said that they are going to continue to have a strong presence over the coming days.
“This matter is subject to a full investigation and Gardai are closely monitoring the situation, keeping all aspects under review,” Superintendent Flor Murphy told the Killarney Advertiser.
