Aldi has this week confirmed its plans to open a new store in Cahersiveen town – creating up to 20 new jobs in the area.

Aldi, who submitted a planning application for the new store on Friday, February 1, plans to have the new 140sqm ‘Project Fresh’ store opened by 2020 after reaching an agreement with Brian McCarthy to purchase a site at Abbey Place, aspart of its €160m Irish store network investment programme.

The move will mean an estimated 20 new jobs will be created at the store, 72 free car parking spaces will be provided for customers, and it will be powered by 100 percent green electricity.

The development will see a substantial investment into the local area as well as the creation of new permanent jobs once the store opens, along with many more during the construction phase, according to Niall O’Connor, Managing Director Aldi Mitchelstown Region.

“This is great news for shoppers and for employment in the town,” he said.

“Every new Aldi store brings greater choice, quality and value to more and more consumers across Ireland. We already have seven stores across Kerry that are hugely popular and very much part of their local community. We’re now really excited about coming to Cahersiveen.”

Aldi’s Kerry stores participate in Aldi’s national partnership with FoodCloud, donating surplus food to local charities daily. The stores have donated over 68,000 meals to charity to date. Each store is also part of Aldi’s Community Grants network, with Adapt Kerry, Castleisland Old Folks Home, Enable Ireland Kerry, Kerry Cancer Support Group and Saint John of God Kerry Services amongst the local charities availing of the €500 bursary grant in recent times.
