Quest Killarney is a hot favourite for over 2000 participants each year and its organisers were delighted to scoop two major national awards this past week.
Elite Event Management, based in Killarney, secured the ‘Best Outdoor/Adventure Event of 2018’ at the national Outsider Awards on Wednesday (January 30).
Elite Events, who were in Dublin at the Sugar Club to receive their award, saw off stiff competition from 22 other shortlisted events to claim the prize.
It’s the second national award for the company as they also topped the ‘Editor’s Choice, Event of the Year’ category for the Run Killarney half-marathon at the Running in Ireland Awards.
Quest Killarney took place on October 6, and saw more than 2000 participants run, cycle and kayak around Killarney National Park.
The event was credited as ‘a firm favourite on Ireland’s adventure calendar’ as the Outsider Awards recognise the very best in the outdoor and adventure scene in Ireland.
Quest Killarney is an adventure race which involves racers running, cycling and kayaking through the Killarney National Park with routes taking in Strickeen Mountain, the Gap of Dunloe, Mangerton, Cardiac steps, Torc and more. The event is topped off by a wonderful party-atmosphere at the finish line at the Gleneagle Hotel when participants celebrate and relive their memories of their day and achievements.
Oliver Kirwan, Race Director was presented with the Outsider Awards prize by Fiona Monaghan of Fáilte Ireland, sponsors of the category.
“We are over the moon to win this award for Quest Killarney and for the second year in a row a Quest event has taken the title which we are ecstatic about,” Oliver said.
“Our team works hard all year round to deliver world-class events and this award goes to prove that we’re leading the way when it comes to event production in Ireland. We’re very fortunate to have lots of support locally in Killarney where Quest started out as the Killarney Adventure Race back in 2011. But we have spread right across the country since then and we’re looking forward to bringing lots more enjoyable events to our participants in the years ahead. Thanks to Outsider Magazine and Fáilte Ireland for this award and to everyone who voted for us to win.”
