Kids clean obscene Reeks graffiti
T
There was widespread anger and dismay across Kerry this week following the discovery of crude and profane vandalism on the Macgillicuddy’s Reeks.
As our pictures show, the words “F*** Kerry” were scrawled on a rock at Ballaghbeama Pass. The graffiti was first spotted by Piaras Kelly of Kerry Climbing and, to his great credit, he took matters into his own hands by scrubbing it off - with a little help from his children, Orlaith and Tiernan.
“It’s easy for us to say, ‘Isn’t that desperate? Something should be done about that,’ but I think it’s up to all of us to do our bit,” Piaras said.
It’s certainly disappointing to see something like this happen at such a renowned beauty spot and it comes just a couple of weeks after a similar act of vandalism recently occurred at Turnpike Rock.
