99s all around for John’s 99th birthday
W
Well-known Killarney man John Coffey recently celebrated his 99th birthday in novel fashion by enjoying a round of 99s with family and friends.
As our picture shows, John, his children Noreen, Dermot and Mary, grandchildren and great-grandchildren gathered at Kate Kearney’s Cottage to mark his milestone birthday. Speaking to the Killarney Advertiser, Noreen said they were blessed with the weather and a great day was had by all.
The idea to have 99s came from a family friend from the USA, Paddy Quigley. Paddy always has a 99 ice cream whenever he visits and when John celebrated his 98th last year, Paddy suggested getting 99s for the 99th.
John, who is originally from Beaufort, moved to Lewis Road with his family in 1958. Noreen says he his already looking forward his 100th.
Congratulations, John, from everyone at the Killarney Advertiser.
