Dr Allan Mee, Project Manager for the white tailed eagle re-introduction programme in Killarney National Park, attended the presentation of the Pat Corcoran Memorial Trophy to Mia Counihan, winner of the art competition at Lissivigeen National School on Tuesday. Other prizewinners included Saoirse O'Sullivan (second) and Shannon MacCarthy (third).
This year’s competition was based on the white tailed eagle project for the 5th and 6th class pupils who took part enthusiastically. In the course of a talk to the pupils, Dr Mee traced the success of the project, which began 10 years ago. More than 100 eaglets have been brought from Norway and 10 pairs are breeding at present. Dr Mee fielded several questions from the pupils who showed a keen interest in the subject at hand.
