Celts and Blues through in cup, Cedar going up

Killarney Celtic have qualified for the final of the Greyhound Bar KO Cup following a relatively comfortable 3-1 win over Mitchels Avenue in Tralee. Peter McCarthy, Gary Keane and Wayne Sparling bagged the goals for the Celts, whose double dream is still very much on the cards. An all-Killarney cup decider is also a possibility as neighbours Athletic progressed to the last four with a 3-0 away victory over Castleisland.

Tony Brosnan was the undisputed star of the show for us on Friday. He bagged an incredible hat-trick, including a rasping free-kick from distance, and we’re still the hunt for silverware despite having a fairly disappointing season so far.

Our last three results against Castleisland were disastrous so we probably felt like we owed them one, but going back there is always tough. It was a decent performance from us, though, and it gives us a bit of confidence going forward. Killorglin finished third in the Premier B and they were the only team to get anywhere near promoted sides Tralee Celtic and Mitchels Avenue. Supposedly they have improved a lot as the season has gone on as well so we won’t be taking them lightly at all.

Going up

Hearty congratulations to Cedar Galaxy who are moving up yet again following their 3-0 win over Atletico Ardfert. They’ll be playing their football in the Premier B (second tier) next season and I see no reason why they can’t compete at that level too. They seem to be doing things the right way and it’s great to see another Killarney team doing so well. Their opponents in the league final will be either QPR or Ballyheigue - those two meet each other in the last game of the season on Monday. A draw will do for Quarry Park.

I’m sure Cedar will be satisfied just to go up but it’s always nice to win a final when you get there.

The annual Killarney Regatta Dance took place on September 25 as rowers, families and supporters came together to celebrate their successful year.

The racing was cancelled in September due to bad weather.

The Killarney Regatta is one of Ireland’s oldest rowing events, having first begun in 1788.

The dance took place at the Killarney Oaks Hotel where there was a lot of excitement and fun. Six rowing clubs, Fossa, Workman’s, St Brendan’s, Commercials, Flesk Valley, and Muckross, came together to celebrate the community and its shared history.

Amelia Counihan was crowned as the Regatta Queen.

The Queen represents the spirit pride and grace of the rowing community and has been a tradition in the club for generations.

Workman’s Rowing Club congratulated Amelia and described her as a woman who embodies everything that their tradition stands for.

The club said: “Queen is more than a title — it is a celebration of history, community, and the spirit of Killarney rowing.”
