South Kerry 3-04   Tralee Parnells 1-3

South Kerry captured the Coiste na nÓg Chiarraí Lee Strand U 14 Hurling C Title for the first time on Bank Holiday Monday May 7th in Abbeydorney, beating Tralee Parnells by 9 pts on the day. From the first minute, it was clear that South Kerry meant business: with last year’s heavy loss to the same opposition on their minds they were not to be outdone this time.

Early on, South Kerry’s midfield partnership of Cormac Rowe and Michael Dennehy gained control and dominated for the entire game. However, Tralee Parnells were first to register a few scores with a point and then a good goal. South Kerry reacted quickly with a goal to show they were up for it this time.

South Kerry continued to show good team spirit and fight and battled hard for every ball. Goalkeeper Sean Finnegan was confident all through and looked very comfortable in possession.

Their defence stood firm all through with solid displays from Eoghan Kelly, Ben O’Carroll, David O’Leary, Ross O’Leary, Darragh O’Connor & Jack O’Donoghue.

Up front, Luke Crowley at wing-forward had a great game, winning every ball and working hard all through. Charlie Keating (Captain) at full-forward, even though hampered by a knee injury, played his part also and contributed significantly with 4 points when it mattered most.

Others to impress with their work-rate were Sean Guerin, Matthew Fogarty, Hugh Walsh and Caoilte Ó Cronin.

Ciaran Collins, Jack McGuire, Nathaniel Doncel also looked impressive when introduced, and contributed greatly.

Overall, this was a great win for this team and well done to all the entire panel for a fantastic team effort. Congratulations also to their Mentors, Timmy Hourigan, Donal Casey and Denis Coffey.

South Kerry, by virtue of this win, now qualify for the Féile Finals in Connaught in June.

They will represent Kerry for the first time in their history in the Féile Festival of Hurling and will be travelling to Claremorris in Co. Mayo on the weekend of the 8th to 10th June, where they will be hosted by the home club for the weekend.

This will be a fantastic experience for everyone so we hope that everybody will support this team over the next month and ensure that we make this an enjoyable trip. No doubt a few fund raising events will be taking place over the next few weeks and we would welcome your full support. Best of luck now to all.  Mayo, here we come!

South Kerry: Sean Finnegan, David O’Leary, Ben O’Carroll, Jack O’Donoghue, Ross O’Leary, Eoghan Kelly, Darragh O’Connor, Michael Dennehy, Cormac Rowe, Sean Guerin, Charlie Keating, Luke Crowley, Caoilte Ó Cronin, Matthew Fogarty & Hugh Walsh.

Subs: Cian Twomey, Ciaran Collins, Brian O’Connor, Jack McGuire, Liam Mulhearn, Sam Buckley, Nathaniel Doncel, Brandon Griffin & Diarmuid O’Connor.

The annual Killarney Regatta Dance took place on September 25 as rowers, families and supporters came together to celebrate their successful year.

The racing was cancelled in September due to bad weather.

The Killarney Regatta is one of Ireland’s oldest rowing events, having first begun in 1788.

The dance took place at the Killarney Oaks Hotel where there was a lot of excitement and fun. Six rowing clubs, Fossa, Workman’s, St Brendan’s, Commercials, Flesk Valley, and Muckross, came together to celebrate the community and its shared history.

Amelia Counihan was crowned as the Regatta Queen.

The Queen represents the spirit pride and grace of the rowing community and has been a tradition in the club for generations.

Workman’s Rowing Club congratulated Amelia and described her as a woman who embodies everything that their tradition stands for.

The club said: “Queen is more than a title — it is a celebration of history, community, and the spirit of Killarney rowing.”
