Sickly a sell-out but funds still needed

The Sickly Come Dancing event organized by the Sports and Social Club of University Hospital Kerry is already sold out but contributions can still be made through their GoFundMe page. The event, which will take place in Ballygarry House Hotel, Tralee on February 23, is in aid of the chemotherapy day unit in UHK. In total 24 hospital staff members from all different disciplines within the hospital have volunteered to dance ably assisted by a hardworking supporting committee.

The chemotherapy day unit is where chemotherapy is administered to oncology patients. Due to increasing demand for oncology services in Kerry the hospital has outgrown the current units facilities and are in the process of looking to extend the unit in order to provide a purpose built facility where patients can be treated with compassion, respect and dignity at all stages of the treatment process.

The expansion of the current chemotherapy day unit is essential in order to address the growing demand for the service.

To make a donation, visit gofundme.com/sports-and-social-club-uhk. Cheques can be sent to Cora Walsh, Sports and Social Club Chairperson, UHK.

Push to protect Killarney bathing spots

Lochanna Beo is urging local swimmers and water enthusiasts to help identify popular bathing spots across Killarney’s lakes and rivers as part of a Kerry County Council public consultation.

The group is seeking official designation for heavily used local locations, including Dundag, Rosie’s Beach, and Colleen Bawn Rock on Muckross Lake, alongside Ross Bay and Victoria Bay on Lough Leane, to ensure they receive enhanced protection, safety infrastructure like life rings, and regular water quality monitoring under EU and Irish standards.
Highlighting the importance of official recognition, Valerie Harrington of Lochanna Beo said:
“Popular swimming spots in Killarney and local rivers deserve the extra protection, recognition and facilities that official designation can provide.”
Members of the public can submit their nominated bathing areas directly to Kerry County Council by emailing environ@kerrycoco.ie, writing to the Environment Department on Maine Street, Tralee, or contacting Lochanna Beo via lochannabeo.regening.ie.

The deadline for submissions is September 25.
