Some of the biggest names in sports were in attendance last weekend for the annual Kerry Sport Star and Special Awards at the INEC
Legendary Gaelic footballer and manager Mick O’Dwyer picked up the biggest gong of the night as he was inducted into the Hall of Fame, while fellow Kerry great Kieran Donaghy collected the award for basketball.
Paul Geaney and David Clifford were selected as Player and Juvenile Player of the Year respectively but unfortunately both were unable to attend as they were in Mayo with the Kerry team.
Killarney Athletic, who won the Kerry league and cup double in 2017, collected the Soccer Award while near neighbours Celtic were also honoured for their exploits in last year’s FAI Junior Cup. Celtic keeper Robert Osborne was named Juvenile Soccer Player of the Year.
All-Ireland winners Dr Crokes and Glenbeigh/Glencar were named joint Football Teams of the Year, while the St Brendan’s College senior football team, who won the Hogan Cup for the second year in a row, were also honoured.
