Scotts Lakers 89, Galway Titans 60

Scotts Lakers returned to winning ways with an emphatic victory over Galway Titans in Killarney Sports Centre on Saturday night. It was a magnificent all-round team performance from the home side and they laid the foundation for this victory early in the second quarter when they went on a 16-0 run to set them up for a comfortable win.

Titans were competitive throughout the first quarter with big American Keegan Ryan leading the way and the visitors were 25-22 in front at the end of the first quarter.

Antuan Bootle already had nine points for Scotts Lakers at this early stage but was rested for long periods of the match as Coach Vojkan Bencic utilised his full bench.

New signing Dan Griffin, Mark Greene, Justin Tuason , Padraig Lucey ,Andrew Fitzgerald, Mihail Kapitanov and Cian Clernon were all on target as Lakers hit 16 unanswered points to open up a 43-29 lead.

The Killarney side stayed in front to lead 50-33 at half-time and maintained that advantage to stay 68-49 in front at the end of the third quarter.

A Titans comeback was never on the cards and the final quarter was a mere formality. Scotts Lakers finished the match with five local Killarney players all on the court at the same time with young Dylan O'Sullivan outstanding alongside team captain Philip O'Connor, Andrew Fitzgerald and veterans Shane Horgan and Keith O'Grady.

A comfortable 29-point win in the end and it was easily Lakers best display of the season so far. However Titans didn't offer much resistance and much tougher tests lie ahead including an away game in Ballincollig next Saturday.

Scotts Lakers: Mark Greene 17, Antuan Bootle 15, Andrew Fitzgerald 11, Cian Clernon 11, Padraig Lucey 11, Dan Griffin 8, Dylan O'Sullivan 6, Mihail Kapitanov 4, Justin Tuason 3 Philip O'Connor 3 Shane Horgan, Keith O'Grady.

Titans: Keegan Ryan 29, Tom Fabricuss 10, Jan Stec 8

A minute's silence was held before this match in memory of Neptune and Ireland Under 18 star Liam Chandler, who sadly passed away at the weekend.

It will be All Eyes Down as the saying goes on October 23 as St Oliver’s Primary School hosts a bumper Bingo Fundraiser night.

The event, which is being held to raise additional funds for the school’s Special Classes, will take place in the Killarney Racecourse in the Celtic Steps venue.

According to Colm Ó Súilleabháin, Principal of St Oliver’s, the idea for the fundraiser was the brainchild of Denise Hendey, a parent of one of the children in the Special Classes who approached the school wanting to assist with raising much-needed funds for the classes. “She has been utterly amazing with the amount of work and organisation she has put into this event, sourcing an incredible number of fantastic prizes for the raffle and spot prizes for the bingo winners” he said.
Continuing he said “We are so appreciative of the incredible support we have received from all the businesses who have sponsored some amazing prizes and made very generous donations in support of the event.”

St. Oliver’s has eight separate Special Classes, home to 62 children. All monies raised on the night will go towards purchasing additional resources for the classes.

The event will commence at 7pm with doors opening at 6pm. So be sure to come along to what is promised to be a fun-filled night with numerous opportunities to win some amazing prizes and hopefully if there is a ‘knock on the door’ or a ‘bang on the drum’ it will be on your bingo card!

Bingo books (€10) and raffle tickets (€5) are available to buy from the school office and will be available on the night. All welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
