SCOTTS LAKERS return to Killarney Sports Centre tomorrow, Saturday, November 4, when they will play host to Galway Titans. The Killarney side will be anxious to secure a return to winning ways against a Galway side that have only enjoyed one win from six outings so far this season.
A full-strength Lakers squad should be more than capable of securing a victory but a much improved team performance on recent outings will be required.
The Lakers have won their first two games in the league but have been on the wrong end of the scoreline in four other matches including last weekend's agonising one point loss away to Letterkenny. In the four games that they lost, Scotts Lakers were well in contention in every one and were more than capable of snatching a victory.
Padraig Lucey's return this weekend and the addition of new signing Dan Griffin will be welcome under the boards alongside Antuan Bootle and Andrew Fitzgerald while Mihail Kapitanov, Mark Greene, Justin Tuason, Philip O'Connor and Shane Horgan are all capable of spearheading a strong challenge against the Galway side.
Coached by Paul Langan, Titans are led by American Keegan Ryan, Hector Gonzalez, Toms Fabriciuss, Emmanuel Saah, Randal Kozlov and exciting teenage prospect Eoin Coughlan. The latter is a son of former Killarney supremo Joe Coughlan, head coach of the St Paul's Superleague team in the mid-1990s.
A record crowd of almost 950 people filled the Killarney Sports Centre for the last home game against Killorglin. St Paul's and the Lakers players are appealing to all the Killarney basketball supporters to come out again this Saturday to cheer on Scotts Lakers. Tip-off in Killarney Sports Centre is at 7.30pm.
