KERRY COUNTY COUNCIL'S Severe Weather Assessment Team met again this evening to discuss preparations for Storm Brian.

Met Eireann has issued an updated weather warning for Kerry which includes an Orange warning for wind in place from 10pm on Friday night to 10pm on Saturday night. There is also a Yellow weather warning in place for rain until 9pm on Saturday night.

Kerry County Council is advising of an increased risk of possible localised flooding in some coastal and vulnerable parts of the county over the next 24 hours as well as high winds across the county.

Sandbags are being made available at the usual locations around the county until 9pm tonight and from Civil Defence headquarters in Tralee until 9pm. Sandbags which were provided around the county on a precautionary basis ahead of Storm Ophelia remain available at those locations.

Kerry County Council ground crews will assess the situation from 5am tomorrow ahead of high tides in the morning and will closely monitor the situation throughout the day.

Kerry County Council has an emergency contact number in place for members of the public who require the assistance of the Council over the weekend. The number is 066-7183588 and a list of other local personnel who can be contacted is available on the Kerry County Council website.

The following advice issued earlier today remains in place this evening:

-          People are asked to avoid coastal areas in particular where wind speeds are expected to be highest

-          Motorists and road users should exercise caution particularly as trees and branches may have become loosened during last Monday’s storm and may be still be vulnerable to high winds

-          There may also be some spot flooding and surface water on many roads

The annual Killarney Regatta Dance took place on September 25 as rowers, families and supporters came together to celebrate their successful year.

The racing was cancelled in September due to bad weather.

The Killarney Regatta is one of Ireland’s oldest rowing events, having first begun in 1788.

The dance took place at the Killarney Oaks Hotel where there was a lot of excitement and fun. Six rowing clubs, Fossa, Workman’s, St Brendan’s, Commercials, Flesk Valley, and Muckross, came together to celebrate the community and its shared history.

Amelia Counihan was crowned as the Regatta Queen.

The Queen represents the spirit pride and grace of the rowing community and has been a tradition in the club for generations.

Workman’s Rowing Club congratulated Amelia and described her as a woman who embodies everything that their tradition stands for.

The club said: “Queen is more than a title — it is a celebration of history, community, and the spirit of Killarney rowing.”
