David and Aidan to swap pitch for catwalk
T
TWO legends of Kerry GAA, Aidan O’Mahony and David Clifford will be doing a star turn on the catwalk in Fossa on Tuesday, October 10. Dedicated followers of fashion will be hotfooting it to the five-star Europe Hotel & Resort for the 28th annual Fossa Fashion Show, which takes place at 8pm.
Always an excellent fundraiser for a variety of organisations in the parish, it is organised by a team including husband and wife James and Claire Houlihan and Tim Kissane, who have been involved in the event since its beginning.
James and Tim came up with the idea when they were youth leaders in Fossa Youth Club. “The first fashion show took place in the old church in Fossa and the funds raised that year were for the youth club,” said James.
Subsequent fashion show benefited the new church, local historical society, community centre, playschool, new school and new community centre.
Expect to see the latest fashion from Dunnes Stores, MacBee’s Weardrobe, Scarlett, Jasmine, The Pillbox, Fashion World/Joi Boutique, Ela Maria and Brian James.
The best-dressed lady prize will be sponsored by Keane’s Jewellers, Killarney, while a number of raffle prizes and a door prize will also be up for grabs.
There are two prizes of weekend away, sponsored by the Rose Hotel in Tralee and Hayfield Manor in Cork. The enticing door and raffle prizes include dinner for two at the Dunloe Castle Hotel, which is due to reopen in May 2018. “The committee is very grateful for the ongoing support to maintain the existing community centre and plans are afoot to refurbish the old church and develop it into a cultural centre with café facilities and to provide a state-of the-art gymnasium for our rowing club and for all the sporting organisations in the parish,” said James Houlihan.
The event commences with a cheese and wine reception at 7.30pm and tickets are available from committee members, participating shops and on the door on the night.
