Purple power in Killarney
T
THERE were celebrations for Killarney when we learned the town has retained the coveted Purple Flag.
So what does this accolade mean? The Purple Flag is accreditation that our town is a premier night-time destination.
The interim award follows the full review last August.
Paul O'Neill, chairman of the Killarney Purple Flag working group thanked those involved retaining the flag. "It's a real team effort with the Killarney Municipal District, members of the business community and youth sectors,” he said.
Paul congratulated Tralee on its recent awarding of the Purple Flag, "We are delighted to welcome Tralee to the Purple flag family,” he said.
“It is an accreditation that is growing in recognition and for us it re-assures the all important family market the Killarney can offer a diverse and welcoming night out."
The annual Purple Flag Weekend takes place from 6-8 October 6-8 and Paul is calling on the businesses of Killarney to once again “go purple”. "Many of the buildings around the town will be lit in purple,” said Paul. “We are asking pubs, restaurants, shops to support the Purple Flag weekend and dress your staff or your premises in purple.”
