Killarney gets on its marks for microtrack
A
ATHLETES have been descending on Killarney from across the globe for the Killarney 10-mile road race which takes place this morning.
The race, now in its fourth year, is a key element of a fundraising drive now underway to support the development of a 200m microtrack and a floodlit all-weather pitch area which will be situated on grounds leased from the St Brendan's Trust (St Brendan's College Killarney).
Let’s throw our weight behind this project, which signifies a vital addition to our town’s amenities and will benefit all ages.
Competitors, from across Ireland, the United Sates, Canada, the UK and Chile, have been gathering at Ballydowney roundabout and the race starts at 9am sharp.
The route will cover New Road and Aghadoe, crossing at the Golden Nugget, continuing along the cycle path to the Cottage in Knockreer and then down the River Walk past the cottage cross and then up the Bishop’s Path to the finish line at St Brendan’s College.
The prizegiving takes place at 11am.
