Living the dream

SINCE she opted to leave the rat race and pursue her dream, Killarney native Faela Horgan has not looked back.

Faela took up yoga 10 years ago and inspired by the impact the discipline made on her life, decided to train as a yoga instructor. “I recently moved back to my home town of Killarney after spending the last decade in Dublin where I worked as a TV producer,” said Faela. “Teaching yoga is definitely my dream job. It’s about sharing it as it’s made such a positive impact on my life.”

She has won an enviable reputation for her yoga classes in Dublin and now more recently in Aghadoe, Killarney. Faela teaches classes suitable for men and women of all ages, designed to strengthen and tone muscles, regulate the body’s energy, and reduce stress. “I teach a Hatha-style yoga class which is an alignment-oriented practice that consists of physical postures (asanas), breathing techniques (pranayama), mindfulness and relaxation (savasana),” said Faela.

“Each session has a theme to help you explore postures, appropriate modifications and variations.” The Yoga For Beginners class is specifically created for students that are new to yoga as well as those looking to get back into their yoga practice after a break. Here you can learn the foundations of Hatha yoga without feeling overwhelmed or confused.

The drop-in rate for all group classes is €14, but you can enjoy six classes for just €70. Faela also teaches affordable private yoga sessions. “Whether someone is a complete beginner, suffering from an injury, or just wants to deepen their practice, I collaborate with each client to create a yoga programme that is tailored to their needs and lifestyle, creating a yoga experience to address exactly what their body, mind and soul need at that time.”

Semi-private sessions are also available for those who would prefer to practice with a small group of friends or family. “My purpose is to help people feel good in their bodies and create greater ease in their lives,” said Faela.

It will be All Eyes Down as the saying goes on October 23 as St Oliver’s Primary School hosts a bumper Bingo Fundraiser night.

The event, which is being held to raise additional funds for the school’s Special Classes, will take place in the Killarney Racecourse in the Celtic Steps venue.

According to Colm Ó Súilleabháin, Principal of St Oliver’s, the idea for the fundraiser was the brainchild of Denise Hendey, a parent of one of the children in the Special Classes who approached the school wanting to assist with raising much-needed funds for the classes. “She has been utterly amazing with the amount of work and organisation she has put into this event, sourcing an incredible number of fantastic prizes for the raffle and spot prizes for the bingo winners” he said.
Continuing he said “We are so appreciative of the incredible support we have received from all the businesses who have sponsored some amazing prizes and made very generous donations in support of the event.”

St. Oliver’s has eight separate Special Classes, home to 62 children. All monies raised on the night will go towards purchasing additional resources for the classes.

The event will commence at 7pm with doors opening at 6pm. So be sure to come along to what is promised to be a fun-filled night with numerous opportunities to win some amazing prizes and hopefully if there is a ‘knock on the door’ or a ‘bang on the drum’ it will be on your bingo card!

Bingo books (€10) and raffle tickets (€5) are available to buy from the school office and will be available on the night. All welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
