Athletic to honour double heroes at special dinner
K
KILLARNEY ATHLETIC will pay tribute to their double-winning senior squad at a special celebration dinner at the Killarney Race Course on Saturday, September 9.
It has been an unforgettable year for the Blues who defeated town rivals Killarney Celtic in June to claim their first league title in the club’s 52-year history. They followed that up with victory over Mitchel’s Avenue in the cup final to seal a remarkable double and players, officials and supporters will come together on the 9th to celebrate in style.
Proceedings kick-off at 7.30pm sharp with dinner. The players will then be presented with their medals and live music from Midnite Café will take the party well into the night.
It promises to be a great evening of festivities and manager Stuart Templeman is expecting a memorable occasion. “It’s a night not only to celebrate the fantastic achievements of the A team this year but also to acknowledge the work done by every member, past and present, who has helped us get to where we are now,” he said. “And boy shall we celebrate.”
Advertiser sports columnist Adam Moynihan, who plays for Athletic, says his teammates are really looking forward to the event.
“We can’t wait,” he said. “We enjoyed our celebrations after the finals but this is a great chance to get together again and reflect on the year. It’s a nice touch by the club as well. They’ve really looked after us and we couldn’t have achieved what we did without the likes of our chairman Mike O’Shea. This night is as much for the officials and the supporters as it is for us.”
Tickets are €25 and are available from club officials. For more information, contact Mike at 087-2226185.
