First day down for State examination candidates

THERE were smiles of relief in classrooms across today as the students submitted the first of their papers as part of the State examinations.
The long wait was over for more than 3,700 exam candidates in this county this morning, with 1,811 sitting the Leaving Certificate, 79 completing the Leaving Certificate Applied, and 1,867 sitting the Junior Certificate.
They are among a total of 121,000 examination candidates across Ireland.
