THE new library at Gaelscoil Faithleann Primary School has become a star attraction since it was unveiled by popular children’s author and poet Gabriel Fitzmaurice on Friday.

The library was developed thanks to the combined efforts of parents and staff. The space was fitted out using upcycled materials where possible, and a parent in the school brightened up the appearance of the walls with murals and a “reading tree”, while a “reading throne” was installed to be used for reading and storytelling. Children were involved in painting “book covers” to decorate the room.

School principal Proinsias Mac Curtain said: “We now have an amazing library which the children love. This is a wonderful new resource for the school where children can come and relax and read. All our children will look forward to their library slot every week.”

He added: “This will create enthusiastic young readers and writers for years to come and is a resource that will be accessible to the whole school community.”

The chairperson of the parents council, John Bowler said: “The library is a wonderful facility for the school's pupils, and an initiative the parents council were very happy to support.”

As part of the launch pupils took part in a book report competition which was supported by Eason Killarney which donated two prizes to each class, and also judged the competition. The winning entries will be displayed in Eason Killarney.
