THE entire community has welcomed the news that Killarney man Anthony Morris is doing so well following treatment for Lyme disease in the United States.

The former Kerry footballer returned to Ireland on Sunday and the campaign started by his family to help him in his fight continues this evening, thanks to his brother Jim who is organising the quiz event the Brains of Kerry.

“Do you long for the days when quizzes were won by those who knew the answers rather than who is the fastest on the Internet? Well, now is your chance to prove that you and your team are the ‘Brains of Kerry’ and can do it without your phones!” said Jim.

The regional semi-finals of the Brains of Kerry quiz takes place this evening, Thursday, February 23, from 8.30pm with a start time of 9pm in seven venues across Kerry with the grand final next week, Thursday, March 2. “There will be four people per team and all phones will be securely guarded during the quiz,” added Jim.

The same questions will be asked by the guest quiz masters in each venue: The Killarney Avenue, Killarney; The Manor Inn, Killorglin; The Ring of Kerry Hotel, Caherciveen; The Brook Lane Hotel, Kenmare; The Brandon Hotel, Tralee; Benners Hotel, Dingle; and The Listowel Arms Hotel, Listowel.
The cost of entry is only €40 for a team of 4 with 3 teams from each venue qualifying for the grand final on March 2 in the Killarney Avenue Hotel. “Come along and test yourself against others and not the Internet!” said Jim.

Contactless payments launched on Local Link services

Passengers using TFI Local Link Kerry services in Killarney and across the county can now pay for their journeys using contactless card payments.

The National Transport Authority (NTA) confirmed the rollout this week, allowing commuters to simply tap their debit card, credit card, or mobile devices, such as Apple Pay and Google Pa, when boarding.

The move is designed to offer more convenience for those using high-frequency rural and regional routes.

In Killarney, the new payment option will be available on the TFI Anseo town services, which have seen a significant increase in passenger numbers since their introduction.

The contactless system is currently available for single journey fares, while those using daily or weekly passes can continue to use the Leap website or the TFI Leap Top Up App.
Alan O’Connell, General Manager of TFI Local Link Kerry, welcomed the modernisation of the fleet.

“The introduction of contactless payments is another welcome step forward for public transport in Kerry,” he said. “It complements other major projects in the county, including the expansion of TFI Local Link services and the delivery of TFI Anseo in Killarney, which is proving to be another great initiative.”

While the new technology offers a modern alternative, traditional payment methods are not being phased out. Cash payments, TFI Leap cards, and Free Travel Cards all remains fully valid across the network.
