KERRY COACHES will be driving back through the decades as it celebrates 60 years in business this year and all are welcome to an open day to mark the occasion, on March 4.

This story began in 1957, when Johnny and Mary Buckley started providing transportation to tourists in a traditional jaunting car.

In 1979 their son Mike Buckley took over the business and began incorporating saloon cars, mini-buses and coaches.

Today, Mike and his son Johnny operate a fleet of 75 ultra-modern vehicles and employ over 100 staff from their base in Killarney, during the summer season. “We specialise in golf, sightseeing and corporate programmes, operating all over Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales, while also having a strong local presence in the community,” said Johnny.

To commemorate the anniversary, Kerry Coaches will be hosting an Open Day at the Kerry Coaches headquarters (Woodlands Industrial Park, Opposite Aura Leisure Centre) on March 4 from 10.30am to 2.30pm.

Radio Kerry will be broadcasting live on the day, there will be storytelling with local seanchai, Ray O’Sullivan (ages 2-12) onboard the Killarney Ghost Tour Bus, face painting for the children, with tea/coffee and snacks being served throughout the day. “We will also be showcasing the variety of vehicles in our fleet and provide a complimentary Killarney sightseeing tour starting at 1pm,” said Mike. “This tour will be fully guided by our local driver/guides and will be approximately one hour in duration. Looking forward to seeing you all there!”
