THE Killarney Celtic club has been chosen as Aviva’s Performance of the Round from Round Six of the FAI Junior Cup. The FAI Junior Cup sponsors Aviva chose Killarney Celtic following their impressive 3-2 victory over last season’s quarter-finalists, Newmarket Celtic.

The Kerry side went into the game as underdogs with Newmarket the dominant side in Clare and were unlucky to be knocked out of the FAI Junior Cup by Janesboro at the quarter-final stage last year.

Being the away side did not faze Killarney and Eoghan Donnellan’s side responded to going a goal down in Clare with a Wayne Sparling double to give them a half time lead. However they were pegged back on the hour mark but as the game was heading for extra time Killarney’s Chris O’Reilly popped up to nod his side into the last 16.

This was the standout performance in Round Six of the FAI Junior Cup and to mark this Killarney Celtic manager Eoghan Donnellan was presented with the Aviva Performance of the Round trophy at the FAI Junior Cup 7th Round draw in Dublin.

Mark Russell, sponsorship manager, Aviva Insurance, said: “Killarney’s performance in Round Six is what the FAI Junior Cup is all about. Any team can travel anywhere in the country and beat any side.

“It’s an extremely competitive tournament and that can be seen in the last 16 and quarter-finalists every year, there’s always a new list of teams looking to live the dream of playing in the Final at the Aviva Stadium. We at Aviva are delighted to award Killarney Celtic the Performance of the Round for Round Six of the FAI Junior Cup.”

The annual Killarney Regatta Dance took place on September 25 as rowers, families and supporters came together to celebrate their successful year.

The racing was cancelled in September due to bad weather.

The Killarney Regatta is one of Ireland’s oldest rowing events, having first begun in 1788.

The dance took place at the Killarney Oaks Hotel where there was a lot of excitement and fun. Six rowing clubs, Fossa, Workman’s, St Brendan’s, Commercials, Flesk Valley, and Muckross, came together to celebrate the community and its shared history.

Amelia Counihan was crowned as the Regatta Queen.

The Queen represents the spirit pride and grace of the rowing community and has been a tradition in the club for generations.

Workman’s Rowing Club congratulated Amelia and described her as a woman who embodies everything that their tradition stands for.

The club said: “Queen is more than a title — it is a celebration of history, community, and the spirit of Killarney rowing.”
