Frances powers her way to world championships in Italy
B
BEST of luck to Killarney native Frances Arthur who jetted off to Italy today to compete in the World Powerlifting Championships.
Frances, a teacher at Holy Cross Mercy National School, was boosted by the good wishes of her pupils in her senior infants class as they wished her well this week.
She will compete in the prestigious competition, in Lake Garda, on November 12 and 13, in the 53kg weight category.
Frances, who qualified for the world championships in Dublin in May, trains at Phoenix Fitness gym in High Street, Killarney, with Sean McCarthy. Sean, together with her friend and fellow powerlifting enthusiast Melanie Aranda, are travelling with Frances to Italy to support her. “I will be competing in deadlift, squat and benchpress events,” said Frances. “I have really loved powerlifting since I started it and the deadlift is my favourite category.”
