Aquila Club at The Gleneagle Hotel celebrates quarter of a century

T
THE Aquila Club Leisure Centre at The Gleneagle Hotel celebrates 25 years in business this month and to celebrate they are hosting an open morning on Saturday, November 12.
The leisure facility, complete with a 25 metre pool, kiddies pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room, was officially opened by the then Taoiseach, Charles Haughey on November 8, 1991. It has since evolved into a hub for fitness enthusiasts and families of all ages as well as providing a base for The Gleneagle Squash Club and Killarney Tennis Club.
“Maurice O’Donoghue’s vision for this leisure centre was that it would be one of the best in the country and provide a fantastic facility for the people of Kerry” said Aquila Club manager Eamonn Quigley. “It’s hard to believe we are open twenty-five years. Today we see many of the kids who learned to swim here in the 90s now bringing their children swimming here.”
Members and visitors alike are welcome to attend the open day, to check out the facilities and enjoy the festivities. As well as exclusive membership offers, the team at the Aquila club will be giving fitness taster classes including Aquafit and Feel the Burn, tours of the facilities and talks on health and fitness. They will also provide information on private swimming lessons for adults that have yet to take the plunge.
The Aquila Club also hosts swimming classes and clubs for children of all ages. The tiniest tots, along with a parent, can try out a session with Water Babies – Ireland’s leading baby and toddler swim school. Water Babies conduct swimming classes at the Aquila Club on Wednesdays.
The Little Ducklings Club and Little Stars are both swimming clubs for children aged between 2 and 4 years and teach water familiarisation along with basic swim techniques. For children aged between 5 and 10 years, The Seals Club and Crocodile Swim Class help children move forward with their swimming techniques. Private swimming classes for both individuals and groups are also available. The Aquila Club team will be happy to talk through all the options and help you find the best fit for your child.
The Aquila Club 25th birthday celebrations open morning takes place on November 12 between 10am and 2pm and all are welcome.
