WE ALL love a regular browse in the Kilkenny Shop as it really does live up to its name as the largest promoter of Irish design for more than half a century. As well as displaying absolutely amazing products instore, once a year it celebrates this dedication during Kilkenny Irish Craft & Design Week, which takes place from October 1-9.

A number of new initiatives are taking place this year, including a mentoring session for up-and-coming designers and design students, an Emerging Ceramic Design competition, in-store craft demonstrations and free vouchers.

This nationwide campaign aims to shine a spotlight on the very best of Irish design, honouring home-grown talent and the vast range created in Ireland, from pottery to crystal, handmade jewellery and fashion.

One such designer Kilkenny is highlighting is Kerry’s Louis Mulcahy. Louis designs and makes each one off piece. For multiples, such as tableware and lamp bases, he designs, makes and tests the prototypes, before handing over to his team of highly skilled assistants. Over the years he has continually refined his shapes and glazes for beauty and his clay body for durability.

This devotion to quality has gained worldwide recognition and the pottery has a special reputation for its large pots and rich, lustrous glazes. These special creations are available exclusively from his studio at Clogher strand west of Dingle.

The CEO of Kilkenny Group, Marian O’Gorman, said: “We are extremely proud to support Irish 12 months of the year, as this is what makes us unique from other retailers.”
She added: “This year we committed to growing our Irish suppliers by a further 5% over the next three years, which we have already commenced.”

Members of the Legacy Elite Cheerleaders were the stars of the show at a Kerry Hospice fundraiser in the Brehon Hotel last Sunday.

The event, organised by Anomis Beauty Studio, drew a large crowd for an evening of entertainment in support of palliative care services in Kerry. Guests enjoyed a prosecco reception, finger food, raffles and live performances, but it was the high-energy display, beside the Christmas tree, from the Legacy Elite squad that stole the spotlight.

Their routine was one of the standout moments of the night and received huge applause from those in attendance.

All proceeds from the event went directly to the Kerry Hospice Foundation.

The fundraiser also marked the first anniversary celebration for Anomis Beauty Studio.

Sheahan’s Maxol on the Muckross Road has plenty to celebrate after winning the Excellence in Customer Experience award at this year’s Maxol Excellence Awards, recognising the Kerry service station’s delivery of an outstanding customer experience.

Winners were presented with their awards at a lavish gala dinner during Maxol’s Retail Conference, which was recently held at The K Club.

The awards recognise best-in-class stations, both company owned and dealer-owned, to promote and reward excellence in station and store standards, customer experience, and community engagement across Maxol’s growing network of convenience-led service stations.

They are assessed through regular standards audits, mystery shopper visits, and reviews of each store’s involvement with the local community.

In addition, each store’s community engagement for Maxol’s nominated charity partner, Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind, is included in the assessment of the overall programme.

Independent Dealer Aisling Sheahan operates Sheahan’s Maxol on the Muckross Road.

Her team’s dedication has made the store a trusted local favourite, and this year’s Excellence in Customer Experience award reflects that commitment.

Under Aisling’s leadership, the staff consistently deliver a welcoming, high-quality experience.

Speaking about the win, Aisling said: “We are thrilled to receive the Excellence in Customer Experience award. Our customers are at the heart of everything we do, and this recognition is a reflection of the passion and hard work of our entire team. We take great pride in providing a warm welcome, great service, and a community-focused experience every single day. It’s wonderful to see those efforts recognised at a national level. None of this would be possible without the hard work, commitment and positivity of our staff at Sheahan’s, and I want to sincerely thank them, as well as our loyal customers, who support us all year-round.”
