Thousands granted Irish citizenship in Killarney ceremonies

A record number of people were granted Irish citizenship in a series of ceremonies that took place at the INEC Killarney this week.
Over 6,000 individuals from more than 140 countries were welcomed as new Irish citizens.
This year has seen a significant surge in citizenship approvals, with over 30,000 people receiving decisions, nearly double the number from the previous year.
Justice Minister Helen McEntee expressed her congratulations to the new citizens and their families. She encouraged them to continue contributing to Irish society.
She said: “Our new citizens play an essential role in fuelling growth in our economy. They also contribute immensely to industries where we have labour shortages, such as construction, agriculture, and healthcare."
India is the best-represented country in this round of ceremonies, followed by the UK, Brazil, Romania, and Poland. Other countries in the top ten include Nigeria, the Philippines, South Africa, China, and the US.
Since the introduction of citizenship ceremonies in 2011, over 191,000 people from more than 180 countries have been granted Irish citizenship.
