Gaelic Games commentator Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh has passed away

RTE has announced that legendary Gaelic Games commentator Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh has passed away at the age of 93.He was one of , if not the greatest GAA broadcasters of all time.
Although trained as a teacher, the Dingle native took up sports commentary at the 1949 Railway Cup Final on St Patrick's Day.
“He continued teaching up until the mid-1980s when he became a full-time broadcaster with RTÉ,” said an RTÉ statement,.
“Mr Ó Muircheartaigh took over as RTÉ Radio 1's premier radio commentator when Míchael O'Hehir retired from broadcasting in 1985.
“ His last All-Ireland final came in 2010, when he commentated on Cork's win over Down in the football decider, and he retired from broadcasting in October of that year,"
A well-known figure throughout the land, Ó Muircheartaigarh, visited Killarney many times.
One of his most-recent visits was in 2019 when the veteran GAA commentator told his best football stories and directed a workshop at the ‘Storied Kerry’ annual conference in November 2019.
